Site visit to Swillington School Passivhaus

Date: 25 November 2014 Time: 18.00 to 22.30
Location: Swillington School, Church Lane, Leeds, Yorkshire, LS26 8DX Cost:

The AECB Yorkshire Group has organised a site visit to Swillington School which, when handed over in 2011, was one of the UK’s largest Passivhaus buildings.

The visit will consist of a presentation by Jim Shaw of Interserve, the contractor who built Swillington and Richmond Hill Schools.  Jim will give a commercial view on the challenges of building Passivhaus on an ‘industrial’ scale in the UK. This will be followed by a tour of the building.

Interserve are an interesting company in they were an early adopter of Passivhaus in the commercial sector. They have built a number of Passivhaus schools with more in construction, their East Midland Offices in Leicester is Passivhaus and they are currently building two more Passivhaus offices. They are in the early stages of a Passivhaus Science Park and health care facility.

CPW (Couch Perry Wilkes) will also be in attendance they have worked on a number of Passivhaus projects and were mentioned in honourable dispatches a few weeks back at the UK Passivhaus Conference.  This will be a fascinating visit and opportunity to see how Passivhaus is delivered on a commercial scale.

After the visit members will retire a well-known real ale hostelry, New Manson Arms Oulton.
