Ditchingham Passivhaus receives Passivhaus certification

BRE have announced the certification of the Ditchingham Passivhaus scheme. The scheme has been designed and built by the same team that delivered the award winning Wimbish Passivhaus scheme for Hastoe Housing Association (Parsons & Whittley Architects, Davis Langdon and Bramall Construction). The team will be presented their  'Certified Passivhaus' certificate by Passivhaus co-founder, Prof. Wolfgang Feist on 5th February in Norfolk.

This scheme of 14 homes is Hastoe’s second Passivhaus scheme after the award winning Wimbish scheme in Essex. The homes are set in the Ditchingham Conservation Area adjacent to Listed Tayler & Green social housing. The brief was to develop a scheme of 14 affordable dwellings to achieve CfSH Level 4, Lifetime Homes, Secure by Design and 14 Building for Life points.

The lessons learnt from the Wimbish scheme have been replicated by Hastoe on this project as the first step on the way to making the methodology a mainstream option for those wanting comfortable living environments with low fuel bills. The Ditchingham scheme was completed in September 2012.

Early monitoring is indicating that the dwellings are performing exceptionally well. The first five months fuel bill for a 2 bed mid-terrace between August and December was <£50 with an average temperature of 21.9 degrees internally.
