Project Spotlight: The Seed Cohousing - exploring shared living in an eco Passive House
with Kirsty Maguire, Kirsty Maguire Architect Ltd, and Jeff Colley, Passive House Plus Magazine.
Hear Passivhaus Designer and Architect, Kirsty Maguire and Jeff Colley from the Passive House+ magazine, talk about The Seed Co-housing project.
This is a certified Passive House project with a special focus on both social and technical sustainability. The Seed is a co-living woodland home near Dundee, for two families with around 180m² living area. Built on the site of a dilapidated home, it reuses most of the original structure’s materials and replaces it with a certified Passive House Classic building constructed almost entirely from bio-based products. Cement was nearly eliminated to minimise embodied carbon, and the design was driven by a deeply collaborative process focused on environmental sensitivity.
The building is also the winner of the UK Passivhaus Trust's ‘Exemplar Sustainable Buildings Award’ and was featured on the cover of the Passive House+ magazine, issue 47. The webinar will also feature a short film, interviewing the clients about their new home after living in it for some time. After the session, a Q&A will provide a chance to discuss this project specifically and broader sustainability in the context of Passive House.
