Scottish Building Regulations Consultation: Have your say!
Calling all Passivhaus practitioners! The Scottish Government have recently drafted a Heat in Buildings Strategy which presents a vision for decarbonising heat and reducing energy demand across all buildings in Scotland. Will Scotland make Passivhaus a priority? Have your say!
The consulation
The proposals set out changes to energy standards and associated topics in the Heat in Buildings Strategy, and intend to serve all buildings in Scotland as a minimum standard. The proposals include:
-
Improving energy efficiency of new builds as part of wider net-zero ambitions.
-
Addressing changes to ventilation provision due to improved energy standards.
-
Assessment and mitigation of overheating risks.
-
Improving compliance to energy standards.
The above proposals are critical to Passivhaus and meeting climate targets. The Trust in collaboration with Collective Energy and partners have created a response. We encourage others to use the Trust's draft responses as a basis for your own consultation.

Additionally, to reinforce that Passivhaus provides a robust solution for achieving these ambitions, the Trust recently compiled a briefing note for the Scottish Climate Assembly, outlining that the proposals are insufficient for Scotland to reach their net-zero pledges.
Have your say
The Scottish Government are now seeking built environment professionals to have their say. The consultation aims to gather views and evidence of challenges and opportunities in the proposals in comparison to current building regulations for new buildings. The intention is that views from both industry stakeholders and built environment will then be collated and reviewed to produce a 2024 New Build Heat Standard.
Lets make Passivhaus a priority! Read the consulation paper and have your say by responding to the consultation below. Deadline: Friday 26 November
