Self-build mortgage discounts step up for Passivhaus

In a bid to accelerate the uptake of energy-efficient building in the UK, PHT Patron Ecology Building Society announces an increase in C-Change mortgage discounts for Passivhaus projects.

After more than 30 years, PHT Patron Ecology Building Society continues to actively encourage borrowers to build better by increasing discounts on self-build and custom-build mortgages for energy-efficient projects. As the gold standard for comfort and energy-efficient building, those building to Passivhaus standard will receive the highest discount of 1.50% as part of Ecology's latest C-Change mortgage offer.

 

We’re delighted that Ecology Building Society has increased its C-Change mortgage discount for Passivhaus even further. Ecology has been leading the way in green mortgages for many years; they recognise Passivhaus as the leading standard for energy efficiency and occupant comfort by awarding it their maximum discount. Green financing can impactfully incentivise efficiency measures and higher quality buildings. We look forward to seeing more homeowners taking advantage of both Passivhaus benefits and Ecology’s mortgage discounts in the coming years.

During construction, the self-build mortgage starts with an initial rate of 4.65%. (This rate changes to 4.99% from 1st August.) On completion, borrowers are eligible for a C-Change discount of up to 1.50% for Passivhaus projects.

Ecology Building Society's new C-Change mortgage discounts


Amidst increasing mortgage rates, the cost-of-living crisis and pressing climate targets, the expansion of the C-Change mortgage discounts aspire to foster long-term savings in both energy and borrowing costs. The offer is applicable to a variety of construction types, including projects specifying non-standard materials and modern methods of construction, perfect for Passivhaus projects of all shapes and sizes. A Renovation mortgage is also available for those embarking on a retrofit project.

 

Now more than ever it’s important that lenders play an active role in incentivising green building and helping to reduce energy bills. We’ve been leading the way on sustainable mortgages for over 40 years, and we hope that the updates to the C-Change discounts will encourage our borrowers to build even more energy efficient homes, which is critical in the fight against climate change.
