UK Passivhaus Certified projects map goes live

Einstein said "you can't use an old map to explore a new world" and with that in mind, our new UK Certified Passivhaus projects map has gone live!

UK Certified projects map

The adoption of Passivhaus throughout the UK is growing rapidly and the map is intended to showcase the incredible amount of Passivhaus activity happening throughout the country.  Intrigued about what a Passivhaus building entails?  Have a look at our 'What is Passivhaus' page to learn more.

Our new project map showcases complete & certified Passivhaus and EnerPHit projects that we know of throughout the UK, as well as some large scale social housing schemes in development.  From schools to social housing, new build to retrofit and rural to urban self-builds, our new map aims to put a pin in all the UK Passivhaus and EnerPHit projects to give inspiration and knowledge to others considering a Passivhaus development.

The Passivhaus Standard

The "Passivhaus" and "EnerPHit" energy standard for buildings are defined by the Passive House Institute.  The Standard's objective is to ensure that, in particular, the following specific building characteristics are an inherant characteristic of any Passivhaus or EnerPHit project:

  • year-round comfortable and healthy indoor conditions
  • an extremely high level of energy efficiency (as a prerequisite for cost-effective operation and climate protection)
  • a high level of user satisfaction

Passivhaus buildings combine superior thermal comfort with minimum energy consumption and in general, the Passivhaus Standard is cost-effective particularly in new buildings.  Passivhaus buildings are classified as Classic, Plus or Premium depending on their renewable primary energy (PER) demand and renewable energy generation.

Renovated existing buildings are certified according to the EnerPHit Standard which uses Passivhaus components to improve thermal comfort, durability, cost-effectiveness and energy efficiency.  EnerPHit buildings can be classified as either Classic or Plus.
