Ecological Building Systems: Silver sponsor of UK Passivhaus Conference 2023
We are delighted to announce that PHT Patron member Ecological Building Systems is a Silver sponsor of the UK Passivhaus Conference 2023. Read our Conference Q&A with Ecological Building Systems below.

What Passivhaus services does your company offer?
At Ecological Building Systems we provide a wide range of building materials relevant to Passivhaus and low energy builds, from airtightness to natural insulation and compression resistant insulation which limits thermal bridges at critical junctions, for both new build and retrofit. Some products within our portfolio are Certified Passivhaus components by the Passivhaus Institute.
Our qualified and knowledgeable Technical Team support our product range with invaluable advice and support with many of them Passivhaus Consultants, Designers and Tradespersons. At each stage of a new build or refurbishment project, during planning, specification, installation, and build, Ecological can provide assistance and guidance with specifications to optimise outcomes in compliance to building regulations and Passivhaus design. U value and WUFI calculations, construction details and specification clauses can also be provided along with technical drawing reviews and in-depth CPD training.
Our vision at Ecological Building Systems is ‘To SUPPORT the construction sector in the creation of a better built environment through the SUPPLY of innovative, sustainable, ecological building materials and solutions and DELIVER quality, affordable products and training.’
Penny Randell, Director & General Manager UK, Ecological Building Systems
Why are you sponsoring the UK Passivhaus Conference 2023?
We exhibited at the first UK conference and have continued to attend since. As pioneers of ecological building products, we remain passionate about our products and providing technical and customer advice to support our range.
Attending and sponsoring the conference is a way to show our commitment to the UK Passivhaus Trust as valued partners and affords us the opportunity to meet and support the industry and catch up with customers, old and new.
The fact that the conference is coming to Scotland was also the deciding factor for us to push the boat out with ‘Silver Sponsorship’ as our UK company is based very close to the Scottish Border in Carlisle! It’s great to have the conference in the north and we also have a new recruit based in Scotland within our Technical Team, Andy Cook, so it will be a great introduction for him.
What is your favourite certified Passivhaus project?
It must be our colleague Niall Crosson’s family home! Niall was the first employee with Ecological in Ireland over 20 years ago, and he is now our Group Technical Director. He’s waited a long time to create his Passivhaus dream and has built a truly spectacular house for him, his wife and 3 children. The house epitomises our philosophy of using ecological building materials, focussed on performance, with low embodied carbon materials..
Niall heads up all the research and develops our wide range of appropriate building products and systems relevant to our construction types in the UK and Ireland, so after all the theory as an Engineer and a Passivhaus Consultant, building his own home has enabled him to fully appreciate how complex and challenging building sites can be, particularly for self-builders!
More information on the house and the products used can be found here https://www.ecologicalbuildingsystems.com/blog/passive-house-insulation-series
What are you looking forward to at the Conference?
Meeting existing customers and new ones and, of course, catching up with all our friends in the Passivhaus Trust .
It’s going to be great to hear first hand the ambitious plans within Scotland and witness all the projects and innovations taking place and look at how we can best support this rapidly expanding market.
