Saint-Gobain unveil Multi-Comfort guide at Ecobuild

Saint Gobain showcased their Multi-Comfort building concept at Ecobuild 2015. This co-incided with the release of a new design guide entitled, 'My Comfort' featuring construction and junction details, verified by the BRE.

The Multi-Comfort concept was first developed in 2004 and has now been developed in 13 countries around the world, utilising products from across the Saint-Gobain range. The concept was developed in response to the fact that the average human being can spend around 90% of their time indoors.

At the heart of the concept is the principles of the Passivhaus fabric-first approach which not only drastically reduces energy usage by up to 90%, but can lead to improved levels of indoor air quality, thermal comfort and whole-life affordability.

Health and wellbeing is becoming an ever important topic, with building design being recognised as having a key part to play in ensuring occupants spend their time in comfortable environments.

With the factors affecting our sense of wellbeing in a building being particularly complex, Saint-Gobain's Multi-Comfort concept seeks to address this by taking a holistic view of the different areas of comfort and ensuring a suitable balance in the following areas of focus:

Thermal comfort

Audio comfort

Visual comfort

Indoor air quality

Economic comfort

Similarly to the Passivhaus standard, Saint-Gobain offer a Multi-Comfort designer course, enabling architects and designers to gain international accreditation. Delivered in partnership with Saint-Gobain and Passivhaus Trust Patron members, WARM: Low Energy Building Practice, the course includes the essentials of Passivhaus design but also provides guidance on how to comply with the criteria required for Multi-Comfort buildings.
