Boost to UK Passivhaus certification capacity

Accredited Passivhaus Certifier logoThe Passivhaus Trust is delighted to welcome a new cohort of UK Passivhaus Certifiers. Increasing certification capacity is crucial to the Trust's core aim to upscale Passivhaus knowledge and delivery in the UK.

We congratulate all those who have undertaken the rigorous studies and examination to achieve this advanced qualification.

Passivhaus certification is a crucial quality assurance process for building projects to achieve Passivhaus standard.  We encourage more experienced Passivhaus Consultants and Designers to follow the lead of these pioneering individuals and become Passivhaus Certifiers!

We are thrilled to see the uptake of Passivhaus projects in the UK and the growing number of Passivhaus experts taking part on the Building Certifier's course. From the more than 100 accredited Building Certifiers, 18 are now located on the UK and Ireland.

Meet the new Certifiers!

Tomas Gaertner

 Tomas Gaertner

"We have been involved with Passivhaus projects at various different scales for the last 15 years both as architect and Passivhaus Consultant, including residential, care, offices, higher education, leisure and pool facilities. In addition to training architects with the RIBA we have been working collaboratively with fellow architects and engineers to assist with their Passivhaus designs, and many of these over the years have become experts themselves.

As Passivhaus Certifiers we are looking forward to continue these working relationships and bring our experience in to help design teams build better performing, healthier and more efficient buildings, designed to the world leading standard in energy efficiency."

Shane Kinsella

“I have been actively involved in Passivhaus projects for 8 years and I have provided Passivhaus and MEP consultancy on many projects. As part of my role in MosArt, I provide MEP support to our team of certifiers. Having worked on everything from single houses to high rise towers and everything in between, it was a natural progression to become a Passivhaus Certifier. When the opportunity arose to become a Certifier, I wanted in.

I am very passionate about Passivhaus and believe that I can make a valuable contribution to the industry and assist in reducing the environmental impact of our buildings. I am a firm advocate of the 'Mean, Lean, Green' approach to sustainable buildings and Passivhaus is a proven path to delivering this, with a consistently low performance gap. I look forward to working with our clients to help them achieve their sustainability goals, in a practical manner.”

Dr Sarah Price

"There is a huge and increasing demand for Passivhaus and therefore Passivhaus Certifiers in the UK.  Myself and QODA want to be part of that change, to create better and healthier buildings, to improve workmanship and to take pride in our construction projects.

I am really looking forward to the challenges that we will face as new types of building and ever larger developments come forward for certification.  I am also looking forward to working on projects that aim to deliver affordable, low-carbon, healthy homes, both new build and retrofit."

"I became a Certifier to assist in driving the industry to meet the quality and standards of construction we are capable of achieving.

I’m looking forward to helping others in achieving Passivhaus certification for their projects and contributing to raising further awareness to the many benefits the Passivhaus standard brings.

At Greengauge we had a plan that we wanted to be considered as technical experts in our field. My becoming a Passivhaus Certifier takes us a massive step forwards to making that plan come true."

"I think Passivhaus is crucial in delivering net zero carbon, and I realised we needed more Certifiers than the current group of great people in the UK.

So when I got the chance to train as a Certifier I grabbed it with both hands. I look forward to helping deliver high comfort and quality, low operational energy buildings, and to learning in the process."
