The Passivhaus Trust is growing rapidly and needs to scale-up significantly in order to help transform the built environment sector in the UK. We are seeking someone to help shape the future development of the Trust and to play a pivotal senior role in its management and development.

Who we're looking for

We are looking for an experienced business development leader, potentially with operational management experience, with the vision to play a pivotal role in helping to deliver the low carbon buildings needed to address the climate and ecological emergency. You will have:

  • Minimum qualifications of a relevant degree.
  • At least 10 years’ relevant work experience.
  • Strong communication, business development and leadership skills.
  • Experience of developing and implementing organisational growth plans.
  • Demonstrable expertise in at least two of the roles outlined above.
  • Expert knowledge of Passivhaus and low energy building policies & practices.          

 

The role includes

The Development Director or Development & Operations Director will provide business development and potentially operational leadership to the Trust, as well as helping to shape its future direction. We have set an ambitious strategy aiming to encourage the industry to deliver 10% of all new buildings to the Passivhaus standard by 2030, and for 50% of the industry to be trained in Passivhaus principles in the same timescale; the new Development / Development & Operations Director will need to plan and lead the organisational changes needed to deliver against these targets, including scaling-up training, certification and policy engagement.

 This role is obviously multi-faceted, and is likely to require skills in the following areas, with the balance depending on the applicant’s expertise and experience:

New business development

  • Developing and managing the Trust’s business development strategy
  • Identifying and developing relationships with key funding organisations
  • Leading the development of new programmes to support the delivery of the Trust’s strategic objectives, particularly around education/ training, including negotiation of partnerships and other agreements
  • Leading the exploration and development of new PHT programmes (e.g. PHT education)
  • Supervising/preparing PHT funding proposals e.g. training, competitions, research etc
  • Supervising the Trust’s Membership and Recruitment strategy, including development of existing member management and customer service systems.
  • Managing the Trust’s Campaign activities, such as the Private Developers’ or Social Housing Campaigns.
  • Collaborating with universities, local authorities and other clients and practitioners

Policy engagement and campaign management

  • Engagement with key policy makers (e.g. BEIS, MHCLG, Govt departments) to promote the PH approach
  • Engagement with the Passivhaus Institute & others to increase the status of PHT activities
  • Engagement with local authorities and key client & funding bodies (e.g. DfE, Housing Associations) to support their policy development & promote PH
  • Liaison with other policy groups (e.g. LETI, ACAN) to encourage their adoption of PH
  • Oversight of PHT positions, for example on “Passivhaus and net zero” or “Passivhaus and the retrofit challenge”
  • Representation and presentations at relevant policy and other events

Organisational management and transformation

  • Preparing annual business plans and budgets, plus (quarterly) reviews of progress
  • Monitoring financial progress (monthly) against targets
  • Staff/ team management, including staff development plans and appraisals
  • Preparing and implementing change management plans for new activities
  • Managing and updating the Trust’s operational processes & procedures

Contract Details

The role will be a permanent PAYE position, approximately 2.5 -3 days per week, potentially up to 3.5 days per week when including the Operations Director role and is hybrid working.

We are happy to consider flexible arrangements, such as part-time working, job-shares, or secondments for appropriate candidates. Salary approx. £55,000 - £65,000 FTE, negotiable.
