WARM's Office receives EnerPHit Certification
PHT member and UK Passivhaus Certifier, WARM, have been retrofitting their own office to meet EnerPHit standard. Located in Plymouth, Number 3 Admirals Hard consists of a ground floor retail unit and conversion of a first floor flat into WARM's office. The entire building envelope is certified as an EnerPHit project. The challenging and extensive retrofit works included external wall insulation, cavity wall fill, floor insulation (between the office and the shop), roof insulation at rafter level, high levels of air tightness and high-performance triple-glazed windows, as well as a self-balancing MVHR system.

Sally Godber, from WARM says it is very different learning on your own project with your own money however it has given them a greater understanding and appreciation of the construction as well as first hand experience of working in a Passivhaus. There were several aspects which worked well such as continuous airtests and working with highly skilled carpenters, plus those that were more of a learning experience such as combating a wonky roof!
Overall the project has been a fantastic success – a year on there is no doubt that the quality of the space has really improved our output. I wasn’t sure before but now strongly believe Passivhaus is a fantastic standard for offices, not because of the low heat input but the air quality, thermal stability throughout the year and the real surprise: how little external noise there is. Sally Godber, WARM.
WARM are currently inputting into a collegues ‘Home office/shed’ which is currently under construction. There are also plans to retrofit 2 of their own houses – watch this space!
