CREST Passive Pavilion completes
The £1.5M Centre for Renewable Energy and Sustainable Technologies (CREST) provides specialist education, training and R&D support to help small and medium-sized firms compete in the multi-billion pound renewable energy and sustainable technologies sector.
The cross-border facility is supported by the EU INTERREG IVA programme managed by the Special European Union Programmes Body (SEUPB.)
The CREST Centre’s dedicated R&D spaces and specialist equipment, including the flagship CREST Passive Pavilion building which is designed to meet Passivhaus standard and Europe’s first robot-managed solar array, ranks it highly among the UK and Ireland’s top ‘clean and green’ training facilities.
The Passive Pavilion
The Pavilion area of CREST provides demonstration and testing facilities to showcase innovative products and processes and the use of renewable technologies in construction. The Pavilion was designed to engage industry through interactive displays of new sustainable technologies and materials allowing for a deeper engagement in and understanding of the techniques. Products on display include:
- new construction technologies and passivhaus detailing
- natural building materials e.g. hempcrete, wood fibre insulation
- renewable technologies including solar hot water heating, micro-hydropower and air source heat pumps
