PHT projects in the pipeline

Whilst we usually share quite a lot of our activities with you (have you entered your Passivhaus project into the UK Passivhaus Awards yet?) there are a few projects bubbling away which the Trust are currently developing. Take a figurative 'look behind the scenes.'

PHT participation in Innovate UK research

Innovate UK

PHT are working in collaboration with BSRIA, Good Homes Alliance and Willmott Dixon on an Innovate UK research project. The feasibility study aims to inform the development of a ‘QA framework’ that can be applied to the delivery of energy efficient homes with greater attention on operational performance.

The study will look at how a ‘QA framework’ could incorporate metrics to help ensure project aims are communicated, embedded and realised through all the various stages from concept design to handover & management of energy efficient homes once occupied.

Initial workshops have been carried out and 5 out of the 10 case studies identified for data collection are Passivhaus schemes. Interviews and data collection are underway. The feasibility study comes to an end in November 2016, and findings will be published in a report soon after.

Custom & self-build campaign underway

Passivhaus goes personal is a campaign aimed at promoting Passivhaus to those thinking about building their own home and becoming part of the ever expanding UK custom & self-build market.

Passivhaus goes Personal kick off meeting

As well as producing Passivhaus guidance tailored to the custom & self-build market, it is intended for the campaign to participate in a number of related exhibitions and tradeshows. After our initial kick off meeting with partners earlier this month (April 2016) progress and organisation is well underway. More details will be updated as soon as available on our campaigns and competitions section of the website.

Enouraging Local Authorities to be bold with Passivhaus developments

A number of Councils and Local Authority Housing departments are showing interest in building to Passivhaus. This summer the Trust will be holding an event in London, targeted specifically at this sector, and will cover why and how they can help deliver more Passivhaus buildings, along with examples of councils at the forefront, and approaches they have adopted to deliver Passivhaus schemes. Passivhaus Student CompetitionPassivhaus Student Competition sponsored by lafarge Tarmac

The inaugural Passivhaus Student Competition took place in 2015. Winners were announced at the UK Passivhaus Conference.

Following on from the success of the competition, PHT & Tarmac wish to expand the competition and its resources to 6 Universities. This summer, we will be developing a programme of student education activities along with competition briefs to be ready for the following teaching year, kicking off at the 2016 UK Passivhaus Conference.

Passivhaus Design Competition

A potential Passivhaus Design Competition with a very interesting partner is in the pipeline. It’s very early days so we can't divulge too many secrets, but we are working on getting the winning scheme funding to develop the initial designs into a feasibility study as part of the prize.
