UK's 1st Passivhaus pool progresses
Set to make a splash next year – progress at St Sidwell’s Point, the UK’s first Passivhaus leisure centre & pool, is advancing well.
Due to open in 2021, St Sidwell’s Point leisure centre is expected to attract around 500,000 visits a year, twice the amount of the previous leisure centre.
People can see for themselves the structure rising above the hoarding line and the striking curve of the building starting to take shape. Those working on site have done a fantastic job. The quality is fantastic, and what we will see at the end of it all will be just breathtaking. I really cannot wait for it to open next year.”
Councillor Phil Bialyk, Exeter City Council leader
The building has been modelled to withstand predicted changes in climate conditions up to 2080. Saving up to 70% on annual energy costs in comparison to lower efficiency building techniques.
Thanks to ultra-filtration, the pools will have exceptional water quality with minimal chemical content, which will greatly improve the experience for swimmers compared to any other pools in the country.
