Every year, Passivhaus buildings across the UK generously open their doors to visitors. Whether you are a self-builder, a built environment professional or an individual interested in learning more about Passivhaus design, this event offers an invaluable opportunity to experience the comfort and quality of a Passivhaus. Meet and talk to the owners or professionals involved to find out more first-hand.

Register your project

Are you a proud Passivhaus occupant, or have you been involved in a Passivhaus project previously? Get involved and enjoy hosting your Open Days and sharing your first-hand Passivhaus experience with attendees!  The great news is each participating project has complete flexibility on when they welcome people, how often, and how many visitors they would like to accommodate.

Once you have created a booking form to collect visitor information, register with the Passivhaus Trust so that we can add your Open Day to our website and support your promotion of the tours via our platforms!

How to take part:

1. Check your eligibility.

2. Create a project web page, or an event booking form*  for your tours**. 

3. Complete the online PHT registration Open Days form & upload 1-3 project images   

* Use any method you prefer to collect your attendees booking information for your tours. Such as JotForm or Eventbrite(A helpful Youtube video as to how to set up an Eventbrite event is here. Alternative free ticketing sites include Ticket TailorTicket Source & FIXR)

In the booking form: We suggest including tour information such as project details, location & available booking slots, and collecting visitor names, email addresses and phone numbers  - Check out our booking form template

**OR provide us with a link to your project on the International Passive House database AND your contact details.

Frequently Asked Questions

General

Who can participate in the Passivhaus Open Days? 

All building owners/building users of Passivhaus buildings or those renovated to the EnerPHit standard, which have been calculated with the Passivhaus Planning Package (PHPP) can participate. Projects can be at various stages - from fully occupied & certified to under construction and aiming for certification.

Do visitors have to register?

We encourage all visitors to register for tours. Booking details will be specific to each tour & run by tour organisers, NOT the Passivhaus Trust. The properties that are opened are often private homes. Registration provides us and the owner with a level of assurance that the process is being managed with care. Some tours may operate a walk-in tour - please check all tour details.

Host

Am I eligible to host a Passivhaus Open Day?

  • Projects must be Passivhaus projects
  • Projects can be at various stages - from fully occupied to under construction
  • New or established, participating projects from any sector are welcome

Is there a participation fee?

No, registration and participation in the Passivhaus Open Days is free. (There are fees on Eventbrite to run free events, however alternative free platforms are available.)

Is there a limitation on attendee numbers?

No, however, we recommend a maximum of 10-15 attendees per host to safely guide large groups through a property. Participants must stay within the site of the host. 

Which rooms in my building will visitors look at?

Those running the tours decide which rooms are shown to visitors and at what times. This will be dependent on several factors such as whether residents are in-situ etc.

How do I market my tours?

The Trust will promote & support the event but further help its appreciated to attract new people & maximise exposure. You could share your viewing via: 

  • Social media

  • Through your website / Newsletter

  • Your local council newsletter

  • Your local area's environmental network/action groups

Can I run a site visit separate to the Open Days?

If you simply cannot make your tour dates align with the open days, yes, you can run a solo site visit. But, it will miss the branding of the Passivhaus Open Days, and inclusion in an international cohesive event run by a global joint community. 

Attendee

Do I need to show a ticket to enter?

No, the host will have a list of names to confirm your registration.

When will the event address be sent to me?

To protect the privacy of some homeowners addresses are sent just before the event takes place at the discretion of tour hosts.

Is there any insurance coverage for visitors?

No, there is no special insurance coverage. If something in the building/apartment is damaged, the visitor or, if applicable, their liability insurance is liable.
